I used to get a lot of spam when i initially opened an email address and i was just handing it out to everyone and waiting for emails to come so i can enjoy an electonic mail. Eventually it became a headache to keep up with tons of emails arriving everyday and making impossible for me to read those and thus missing the important one which i mustn’t have missed. Finally i had to create a new email and had to use it wisely and here are the 5 tips i would like to share with you.

1:- Do not Give your email address to every website you come across
The first and foremost precaution is to not to simoly give out your email address to every website you visit. Most websites have forms to join or to subscribe. So think thrice not twice whether you really want to give your email to them. Some websites simply block contents and require you to login which again most of the times require you to give email address. I would say think thrice again, may be if you do want to register then first try out with some spare email address and expereince the site for a month or two before actually joining the site with your real email.

2:- Do not post your email address to websites and forums
There are thousands of website forums running, everyother website has a forum/discussion running, Do not post your email in the forum topic ot discussion as it ends up as a food for hungry email spiders which are just sniffing email addresses all over the web. God know how those email addresses are used.

3:- Do not open suspicious messages at all
If you get a message from unknown email address or you are not at all expecting, stay away from opening it. Most of the times as soon as you open the email your email is confirmed with the sender and you may expect more emails as spams. By not opening you may also miss some important messages but i would suggest be carefull.

4:- Set you email reading software client to be in text mode
If at all you cannot avoid the suggestion in point #3 above, you may consider setting your outlook or email software to open emails in trext mode only which prevents executing html code and embedded images. The main reason for this suggestion is if your software is set to open emails in html automatically the embedded images try to open from the senders server/host thus telling the sender that the email is valid and he/she can send more spams.

5:- Do not reply to unknown senders at all
Another way of confirming and email which spammers use is they send an email and also write at the bottom sometime to unsubscribe from the list. If the email you got is from unknown sender simply mark it a spam and do not even bother unsubscribing to it as again it may confirm the sender that your email exists and can be used for spam in future. The safe thing is to just mark is a spam so next time email may simply go to the junk folder.
