Harbhajan Maan, also known as Mann of punjabi movies, started acting in punjabi movies and his recent work can be seen in Mitti Wajaan Mardi. Comparing to other punjabi movies released in the past his movies have gained much more business in the market. The main reason behind the success definately goes to Manmohan singh who worked in bollywood with big film directors and realized the need of change in punjabi movie screen plays.
Harbhajan mann was a just mere a singer and although not very big name but has definately made his mark as an successful actor in punjabi films.
The low theatre business in USA by Dil Apna Punjabi might be recovered by the recent Mitti Wajan Mardi this year as the film was specially shot in california. Some people says that the film shooting was planned to be in California for two reasons i.e one california is one of the most densily populated area occupied by punjabi population in USA and the second the previous launch of dil apna punjabi could not drive people to the theatre and at least this time punjabi in california may go to expierence the film in cinema halls of california.
Although the music sale of the movie is not very high at this point mitti wajan mardi songs were already available on the internet for free downloading.
The success of the movie will be measured based on the gross collection from the big screens and distribution of DVD of Mitti Wajan Mardi. Even though the movie is yet to be launched and DVD released date not been confirmed but retailers have already started booking for the DVD. Not to say that DVD rippers and downloaders will work behind which take care of the maximum revenue in the blackmarket of DVD availability.
Every movie is made in terms to earch the market and collect dollars regardless its punjabi or any other, luckily punjabi have surpassed other communities in india to have the most number of NRI people and production houses do know this very well and has opened another market for them. 10 years back when a punjabi movie was being made the theme used to be from punjab but now as punjab has grown worldwide the theme have to be broader too and that is one of the points which Manomohan singh knows better than anyone else and he got a good expeiernce in bollywood banners while working there. His direction is is inspired from his bollywood experience which makes the film more entertaining.
Hey,I think you need to get your facts right.i totally disagree with you that Harbhajan Mann was not a big name in singing when he started acting.buddy, he was HUGE!do you know how popular and BIG his albums “oye hoye”, “haaye meri billo” and the video of the song “mirza” were?those who can truly impartially & honestly (without any personal reasons)analyse Harbhajan Mann’s career will tell you that it was his brillant performance in the “Mirza” video that had acting (movie) offers pouring in.the public just loved him in JAN and ANMWD.of course Manmohan Singh’s expertise was a big part of the success of these two movies.but then what happened with “yaaran naal bahaaran”?its the team of HM and Manmohan Singh that does magic.on why they have NRI themes in their movies, i agree with Sonal, that every other Punjabi family has reletives/friends abroad.so therefore the targeted Punjabi audience can relate to the real-life issues touched in these movies.so why don’t we all just let these guys do what they do best and support their efforts to revive Punjabi cinema.when this team started out Punjabi movies had theatrical releases only in Punjab.so what’s wrong with Punjabi movies being shown in other states of India and abroad.English movies are shown all over the world.for the first time ever, its due to this team that Punjabi movies are shown in the best cinemas alongside English movies in Canada, US and UK.i’ve seen it in places like Surrey, Canada that at times Harbhajan Mann’s movies were doing better business than some of the English flicks.i feel we should be proud of our Punjabi cinema moving ahead.the bottom line is no matter which cinema we look at, no producer/director will continue to make more movies if it was commercially not viable.so why raise this issue particulary for Punjabi cinema?
why you cant get punjabi movies on dvds mauj mastiyan was released on 27th may 2007 its sep 2007 you still cant get this film on dvd
Mauj Mastiyan is not a punjabi Movie, its only a punjabi music album, How can you get that on punjabi movide DVD ?
